JASMIN updates October 2026

JASMIN scheduled maintenance day Tuesday 6th October 2026

A regular, scheduled maintenance day is planned for Tuesday 6th October 2026. This will affect all JASMIN and CEDA services.

As usual, the LOTUS batch processing cluster will be unavailable for the duration of the work on the day, to avoid running jobs being adversely affected. A reservation will start at 05:00 until 23:59 on the day, but any job submitted before 04:00 with a running time that goes over the reservation period will not start until after the reservation has finished.

JASMIN Accounts Portal passwords

Following on from our previous notices in July advising to set a new password in the JASMIN Accounts Portal  , the deadline to do so is Tuesday 6th October 2026.

If you haven’t already, you should set a new, different password by this date.

Passwords which have not been updated will be forced reset on this date, so please reset it at your convenience to avoid disruption. Please make sure when setting your new password that it is a new, different password - do not re-use your old one.

Note that this relates to your JASMIN accounts portal password, not your SSH key passphrase.

If you do not change your password by this date then you will have to reset your password  before being able to log back into the JASMIN Accounts Portal.

Closure of sci-vm-05 & sci-ph-01

Two of the scientific analysis machines, sci-vm-05 and sci-ph-01, will be turned off on Tuesday 6th October 2026.

Now that the “inter” partition is available on the LOTUS batch cluster, users are encouraged to try initiating an interactive job on a LOTUS node as described here  . This has the advantage of resources being controlled and guaranteed, so is a good alternative if you have had performance or resource issues on a sci server.

You should now update your local environment and any commands to remove these machines.

VM Migration

Internal work to migrate CEDA and JASMIN services running on VMs will also take place on Tuesday 6th October 2026. Some services may take longer to come back up than previous patch days.
