Stephen Mobbs is a Professor of Atmospheric Dynamics, and the Director of NERC's National Centre for Atmospheric Science. He is a physicist by training and took a leadership role in NERC's airborne observations of the ash cloud over the UK during the Eyjafjallajokull eruption.Prof. Mobbs serves on scientific and operational advisory groups set up by the UK government to deal with the Eyjafjallajokull and future environmental emergencies.
Advance Warning - NEODC Services Down this weekend

NEODC services will be down this coming weekend (evening of Friday 12th to Sunday 14th) and should be considered at risk at the end of this period while essential upgrades to the electricity supply at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory take place.

The British Atmospheric Data Centre (BADC) and NERC Earth Observation Data Centre (NEODC) are participating in a study commissioned by the Research Information Network (RIN) and JISC to explore the long-term use and benefits of Research Data Centres. The study will be featuring the activities of a small number of well-established UK Data Centres, including BADC/NEODC, and aims to document the benefits and impacts that effective curation and sharing of research data can deliver to the scientific community and other users. The study is being performed by Technopolis Ltd.
